Computational Fluid Dynamics Analysis of Isothermal and Non-Isothermal Twin Jets

    Get PDF
This study has been conducted in a partial fulfillment of a master of science degree in nuclear engineering from the department of nuclear engineering at Texas A&M University (TAMU). The study aims to perform a computational fluid dynamics analysis using the commercial software package STAR-CCM+ to compare the behavior of twin jets with equal velocities under isothermal (same temperature) and non-isothermal (different temperature) flows. The behavior of twin jets has a very wide range of application in engineering, from combustion chambers and fuel injectors, to fighter jets and sodium-cooled reactors. This study investigates the twin jets that were constructed by The University of Tennessee at Knoxville (UTK) and are located at the TAMU thermal hydraulics lab. This work was performed to gain a better understanding of the difference between isothermal and non-isothermal flows as this will provide better judgment to the safety analysis of future design reactors. The temperature difference in non-isothermal flows has been seen to affect some flow properties in this study

The main aim of this research study is to examine the influence of Cause-Related Marketing (CRM) campaigns on the perceived brand image, brand loyalty and intention to buy among Jordanian customers. A self-administered questionnaire was distributed to 300 shoppers by using convenience sampling in Amman, Jordan. The results of the study showed that CRM is mainly used by corporations in order to demonstrate their commitment to charitable behavior and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The study revealed that customers in Jordan understand the underlying idea and purpose of CRM practice and have clear perceptions and attitudes about it. Keywords: Cause-Related Marketing (CRM), Brand Image, Purchase Intention, Solidarity Purchase, Brand Loyalty, Consumer Buying Behavior, Commitment to Society. Apples to oranges: harmonising home buyer preferences in Japan and Malaysia through standards comparison

    Get PDF
Sustainable building standards differ around the world due to differing development philosophies and local idiosyncrasies, hindering international comparative studies. In this study, the CASBEE standard used in Japan and the GBI used in Malaysia are compared. Using CASBEE as a baseline, items in each standard are matched, compared, and then filtered to only include those affecting end users. Differing levels in these items in both sustainable building standards are matched and are included in a survey of home buyer preferences. This allows for a single survey to be used to study sustainable housing preferences in both Japan and Malaysia

Sustainable development is a cultural and global demand regardless of the geographical region of this planet. In this context, the goals of sustainable development are broad and diverse, and the human dimension is one of the most important elements among sustainable development issues. The research purpose focuses on employees in both public and private sectors to shift from the sum of daily or weekly hours to the quality of daily work in their organizations. In this context, the current research team chooses the initiative of the American College of Dubai to designate a weekly sports day for its employees. The main justification behind this research is likely to achieve happiness and tolerance among human relatedness. The research unit at the college initiated the monitoring of the phenomenon and constructed a scale that would explore the achievement of this goal at the American College of Dubai. Sports play an important role in improving employees’ mood and willingness toward healthy performance in a healthy organizational environment. It is considered as a source of energy to improve the organizations working environment and improve cultural homogeneity. Our research observations are based on the case of the American College of Dubai (ACD) as a unique example to identify the impact of weekly sports days on employee happiness. It is designated for this type of social activity among the diversified feature of the collegial working environment. It is worth mentioning that the initiative taken up by the college in (2019) has helped us to identify the impact of such non-academic initiatives on generating an environment of happiness and tolerance among the ACD community

This study aimed at investigating the establishment of specific mechanism that may help investors to rationalize investment decision based on the extracted financial indicators from financial statements. The study utilized a questionnaire as a major instrument to collect the needed information and data in order to achieve the study's objectives The sample consisted of 76 participants selected randomly from Jordanian banks. Results revealed that 64% of the participants do not participate in investment decisions. This indicates that investment decisions are restricted in a certain personnel. Furthermore, indicators from income statements are used indeed in rationalizing investment decisions by bank in Jordan. Finally, operation revenues were the most used means in rationalizing investment decisions. Keywords: financial indicators, financial statements, investment decisions, the Jordanian commercial bank

Consolidating Indonesia’s Fragile Elections Through E-Voting: Lessons Learned from India and the Philippines

    Get PDF
This research argues that implementing the electronic voting (e-voting) system in Indonesia is urged following the nation's first-ever 2019 simultaneous elections, which cost a deadly price of 527 election official lives of reported extreme fatigue during and after the event. Billed as "the world's most complex election", it has reached a consensus that the current manual election system, in which five different paper-based elections are voted at a time, has to be changed. Not to mention that the long-time gap between the voting day and the result announcement may create an opportunity for election fraud. This is evidenced by loads of electoral dispute lawsuits from the previous election brought to the Constitutional Court of Indonesia accused the others of cheating. This research stresses that despite the controversies of whether Indonesia, an archipelagic country with more than 17 thousand islands and 267 million people, is ready for e-voting.  Whether the application of technology is an appropriate response to the election problems? E-voting is desired as a long-term solution and intends to solve many issues such as speeding the counting of ballots, reducing the cost of elections, providing accessibility for disabled voters, and increasing overall voter turnout

Quranic letter pronunciation analysis based on spectrogram technique: case study on Qalqalah letters

Recitation of the Holy Quran with Tajweed is an essential activity as a Muslim. Reciting Quran correctly indicates the correct meaning of the words of Allah has been received from this significant resource among Muslims. That is why Muslims stress on the Quranic Education since in the early age. It is important to pronounce the letter correctly based on its characteristics as well as the articulation point of each letter. In this paper, the characteristic based on Qalqalah letters is considered to be analyzed. The audio signal from a person who is very good at Quranic recitation was taken and analyzed. We implement spectral analysis to find the features of Qalqalah letters and extract the correlation between the first formant frequency and the pharyngeal space of the signal. Spectrogram was successfully implemented and proved this relation, and it described the mechanism of Qalqalah correctly, which is unique as compared to other Quranic letters
